In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. We often read the familiarity of these words in such a casual way. Yet the gravity of these words is beyond comprehension.
All that we see and know as this vast physical universe – one beyond measure and scope – he brought into existence.
He created the heavens and all that it contains. The earth and all that it contains. ALL THAT IT CONTAINS. A universe so big that it has yet to be measured, so intricate that has yet to be fully discovered. Oh so much more than we see, touch, and smell.
He created the rhythms of the universe that mark time and space – light and dark, night and day, days and years, and seasons.
He launched the intricate complexities that fulfill the circle of life – genes and DNA, male and female, life and death.
He created the cosmic control systems – the tides, the weather, the atmosphere, the soil, and the food sources – and all the scientific laws that govern life as we know it.
He created a paradise of perfection as an abode for human beings, created in his image, to enjoy in perfect unity and harmony.
He marked his creation with the assessment that it was all good – very good indeed.
He executed a perfect plan. He created something that was complete in all aspects, mindful of its sustainability, and unable to be replicated.
He created something that man has spent thousands of years trying to understand and explain, but has proven to be unexplainable.
Yet God provides the simplest answer to the most complex of questions. We see this in both the story of creation and the story of salvation.
An incomprehensibly, complex God executed a perfect and un-replicable plan that provides the simplest answer to man’s most complicated questions. The mystery of life. The questions that have plagued mankind for all of human history. How did we get here? Why do I exist? What happens when we die?
The root of all these mysterious and complex questions that haunt man past and present isn’t found in yet-to-be-discovered cosmic equations.
We assume complicated questions require complicated answers. The irony is that the simple answer has proven to be the hardest to accept.The answer to these mysteries is singular and cohesive. The answer lies in the simplicity of childlike faith. Faith in God. He is the answer. He makes the complicated, simple.
Like a riddle that seems unsolvable, once the answer is revealed it seems so obvious. As we search for reasoned, scientific, logical answers, the obvious answer remains in plain sight.
The Bible says creation screams of his handiwork. Romans 1:20 says, “For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world being understood through what he has made.As a result, people are without excuse.”
God started life at creation, he restored life at the resurrection, and he will sustain life for eternity. It’s complicated, yet so simple. What we’ve been looking for has been right there all along.
